"Lilith Shrine" Gallery Exhibition Documentation with Original Score ~ May 2021 from Julia Sinelnikova on Vimeo.

Seen by some cultures as all-powerful and by some as a wicked demon, it is suggested that our understanding of Lilith has been twisted into something more sinister via myth making. Lilith is the original wife of Adam, the original femme sorceress. Her sigils and attributes can be found on objects including incantation bowls in ancient Mesopotamia, as well as Qabalah mystic objects. My research into Lilith draws on my many years of artwork inspired by the Eastern European folklore I was raised on, which heavily centers the witch. The project was also inspired by lockdown: in quarantine I took to bringing lilies into my studio to accompany me, and began drawing them as I learned about their various meanings in different culture -- similar to Lilith, tied to death and rebirth. I began a process I call “sound drawings,” listening intensely to beats created by close friends as I scaled my ten foot mylar surfaces. The mark-making cumulated into the drawn, printed and digitally transferred installation “Lilith Shrine.” Shot at my weeklong exhibition in Klapper Gallery, Queens College by Errol Basdeo. Comprised of two video artworks over four projector channels, three aluminum and steel sculptures, five hand cut resin sculptures, five small-scale ceramics works, and approximately 32 ten foot drawings, lithography prints with UV reactive ink, and digital prints. Audio composed and produced by Julia Sinelnikova aka ORACLE666. Video edited by Julia Sinelnikova.
